Ancestry study
This study of ancestry provides information on biogeographical origins through the analysis of 165 autosomal genetic markers (SNPs) present in different populations, which show low variability between individuals of the same population and high variability between different ethnic populations. The analysis of these markers is very useful for determining recent ancestry, even in cases with a large population admixture effect. A total of 65 human reference populations are used to determine ancestry: 15 populations from Europe, 25 from Asia, 14 from Africa, 4 from Oceania and 7 from the Americas.
The ancestry test does not provide information on the origin of the surnames. It does not provide a family tree, nor does it provide information on personal family research.
LabGenetics does not sell your data to third parties. Some laboratories cheapen this type of tests in order to later make business with your genetic data. At LabGenetics we take your privacy very seriously and will only use your DNA data to perform your ancestry test.

For this analysis, the reference sample must be from swabs with cells from the buccal epithelium. Here are several options for taking and sending the sample:
- Visit LabGenetics facilities. Our staff will take the buccal swab sample anonymously (without the need for identification).
- Visit one of our partner centers if you are not in Madrid. Contact LabGenetics, and we will inform you about the nearest partner center.
- Request a sample collection kit from us. We will send it to the address you provide. Requesting the kit implies immediate payment for the test. The kit contains precise instructions for use. Once the samples are collected, you must send them to us by certified and urgent postal mail or courier. Shipping costs are at your expense.
- Collect the samples yourself without needing a kit. For this, follow these steps for each participant in the test:
Rub the inner right cheek with a cotton swab (on both ends) for approximately 30 seconds. With another swab, repeat the same process on the inner left cheek. After this, it is VERY IMPORTANT to let both swabs air-dry at room temperature in a protected place for at least 1 hour. After this time, handling the samples as little as possible, place the swabs of each person in a paper envelope properly labeled with the person’s name.
If the samples you have are collected indirectly (nails, hairs with roots, cigarette butts, blood stains, semen, etc.), place the samples in separate and well-labeled envelopes. It is important to handle the samples carefully to ensure their integrity, avoiding touching the areas likely to contain biological residues.
Once you have the collected and properly identified samples, you must download and complete the request form. Finally, send us the samples and the request form by certified and urgent postal mail or courier. Shipping costs are at your expense.
In order for LabGenetics to send you the report with the results of your paternity or maternity test, you must have made the payment in advance using one of the following methods:
- Payment gateway when requesting the kit
- Bank transfer (to the account number indicated on the request form)
- Credit card
- Credit card or cash at our facilities in San Sebastián de los Reyes
- Cash on delivery upon sending the results, with an additional cost of €20
The results of your DNA analysis will be ready approximately 15 business days after receiving the samples. You will receive your report, completely confidentially, through the method you prefer (which you will have previously indicated on the request form):
- Regular mail
- Courier, with an additional cost of €15
- In-person pickup at our facilities in San Sebastián de los Reyes, upon identification of the test requester

We have pioneering professionals in conducting DNA tests for paternity and maternity, both informative and with judicial validity, as well as prenatal and postmortem tests.
We also perform relationship tests such as grandparentage, mitochondrial DNA for studying maternal lineage, Y chromosome for studying paternal lineage, and complex relationship studies using autosomal STRs. Additionally, we offer genetic fingerprinting, biological fluid detection, biological forensics, ancestry studies, and DNA tests for individuals affected by irregular adoptions or newborn abductions.
