Genetic Identification
The purpose of a genetic fingerprint or individual’s genetic profile is to uniquely identify the person, as it remains unchanged from the moment of conception until after death.
The genetic profile is created by studying autosomal STRs, a series of markers present in hypervariable regions of non-coding DNA. It can be useful in the following situations:
Adoption
La huella genética puede utilizarse como medio de identificación de la persona adoptada. Por otra parte, si usted sospecha que puede ser adoptado, puede comparar su huella genética con la de quienes crea que pueden ser su familia biológica.
Twins
Monozygotic (or identical) twins have the same genetic fingerprint, while dizygotic twins have different profiles.
Foreigner
If you want to reunite descendants or ancestors living abroad, a test with judicial value is necessary to determine the family relationship between the participants. A genetic fingerprint can be performed and compared with the genetic fingerprint of the person to be reunited.
Biological criminalistics
Creating a genetic fingerprint is useful for solving forensic cases (violent crimes, sexual offenses, identification of missing persons for comparison with found remains, etc.).

Sample from the person who wants to have the genetic fingerprint performed.
There are several procedures. Choose the one that best suits your needs.
- Visit the LabGenetics facilities. Our staff will collect samples using buccal swabs anonymously (no need to identify yourself).
- Visit one of our collaborating centers if you are not in Madrid. Contact LabGenetics, and we will inform you about the nearest collaborating center.
- Request a sample collection kit from us. We will send it to the address you provide. Requesting the sample collection kit implies payment for the test at the same time. The kit contains precise instructions for use. Once the samples are taken, you must send them to us by certified and urgent postal mail or by courier. Shipping costs are your responsibility.
- Take the samples yourself without the need for a kit. To do this, proceed as follows for each participant in the test:
Rub the inside of the right cheek with a cotton swab (both ends) for about 30 seconds. With another swab, repeat the same operation on the inside of the left cheek. It is VERY IMPORTANT to let both swabs air dry at room temperature in a protected place for at least 1 hour. After this time, handling the samples as little as possible, place the swabs from each person in a properly labeled paper envelope (child, alleged father, alleged mother, etc).
If the samples you have were collected indirectly (nails, hairs with roots, cigarette butts, blood stains, semen, etc.), place the samples in separate, well-labeled envelopes. It is important to handle the samples carefully to ensure their integrity, avoiding touching areas that may contain biological residues with your fingers.
Once you have the samples taken and properly labeled, you must download and complete the request form. Finally, you must send us the samples and the request form by certified and urgent postal mail or by courier. Shipping costs are your responsibility.
- If you want to perform this test with legal validity, the individuals involved in the test must go to our facilities or any of our collaborating centers (located throughout the national territory) where the samples can be collected. Contact us, and we will indicate the nearest collaborating center. To perform the sample collection and complete the chain of custody, the participants must provide:
- ID card or passport
- In the case of minors, a recent photograph (essential) and a photocopy of the family book or legal authorization justifying custody of the minor (recommended).
- The collaborating center will be responsible for sending us the samples along with all the necessary documentation (request form, chain of custody, photocopies of participants’ documentation, etc.).
For LabGenetics to send you the report with the results of your test, you must have previously made the payment using one of the following methods:
- Payment gateway when requesting the kit
- Bank transfer (to the account number indicated on the request form)
- Credit card
- Credit card or cash at our facilities in San Sebastián de los Reyes
- Cash on delivery upon receipt of results, with an additional cost of €20
The results of your DNA analysis will be ready within approximately 3 to 5 business days from the receipt of the samples. You will receive your report, completely confidential, through the method you prefer (which you will have previously indicated on the application form):
- Postal mail
- Courier service, with an additional cost of €15
- In-person pickup at our facilities in San Sebastián de los Reyes, with prior identification of the person requesting the test

We have pioneering professionals in conducting DNA tests for paternity and maternity, both informative and with judicial validity, as well as prenatal and postmortem tests.
We also perform relationship tests such as grandparentage, mitochondrial DNA for studying maternal lineage, Y chromosome for studying paternal lineage, and complex relationship studies using autosomal STRs. Additionally, we offer genetic fingerprinting, biological fluid detection, biological forensics, ancestry studies, and DNA tests for individuals affected by irregular adoptions or newborn abductions.
