PRENATAL PATERNITY TEST
At LabGenetics we carry out prenatal paternity tests using DNA tests. From 240 euros and with complete confidentiality.
We have professionals who are pioneers in carrying out DNA tests for biological paternity research, which positions us as one of the reference centres in the Forensic Genetics sector at a European level. The results provided are conclusive, reliable and of high quality, complying with all the technical and methodological requirements necessary to obtain accreditation through the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard for Forensic Genetics tests.
In prenatal paternity tests, samples from the fetus can be of two types:
- Chorionic villus. This is a part of the placental tissue. The sample can be taken between weeks 10 and 12 of gestation via the uterus, by means of a chorionic biopsy.
- Amniotic fluid contained in the amniotic cavity. The sample can be taken between weeks 14 and 20 of gestation by means of amniocentesis, by transabdominal puncture.
It is important to note that the intervention to obtain fetal cells, either by chorionic biopsy or by amniocentesis, carries a small risk of spontaneous abortion, below 0.5%.

Fetal sample, sample from the alleged father and sample from the mother. (In this case, the sample from the mother is mandatory).
The collection of fetal samples must be carried out in a gynecology and reproductive medicine center. Labgenetics has several gynecological centers in Madrid where the fetal sample can be collected. It is also possible to obtain fetal cells in any other gynecological clinic that you trust, and LabGenetics will contact the center you have chosen to coordinate the sending of the samples.
The collection of reference samples, that is, from the biological mother and the alleged father, can be done by various procedures. Choose the one that best suits your needs.
- In the same gynecological center where the fetal sample is taken.
- At our facilities or at a partner center. Contact us and we will tell you the nearest partner center.
- If the prenatal paternity test is for information purposes only (not legally valid), we can also send you a sample collection kit so that you can collect the samples yourself. Request a sample collection kit from us. We will send it to the address you provide. Requesting a sample collection kit entails payment for the test at the time. The kit contains precise instructions for use.
- You must bring the samples to the gynecological center at the time of the intervention (chorionic biopsy or amniocentesis) so that they can send us the three samples (fetal sample, sample from the mother and sample from the alleged father).
- If the paternity test is for informational purposes only, you can take the samples yourself without needing a kit. To do this, proceed as follows for each of the participants in the test:
- Rub the inner right cheek of your mouth with a cotton swab (on both ends) for approximately 30 seconds. Using another swab, repeat the same operation on the inner left cheek. Afterwards, it is VERY IMPORTANT to let both swabs air dry at room temperature in a protected place for at least 1 hour. After this time, handling the samples as little as possible, place the swabs from each person in a properly identified paper envelope (presumed father, mother).
- If the samples you have have been collected indirectly (nails, hair with roots, cigarette butts, blood stains, semen, etc.) place the samples in separate, well-marked envelopes. To ensure the integrity of the samples, it is important to handle them carefully, avoiding touching areas that may contain biological remains with your fingers.
- The samples must be brought to the gynecological center at the time of the intervention (chorionic biopsy or amniocentesis) together with the request form that must be downloaded and filled out. In this way, the gynecological clinic will send us the three samples (fetal sample, sample from the mother and sample from the alleged father) duly identified.
If you wish the paternity test to have legal value, it will be necessary for the samples from all participants to be accompanied by a chain of custody document (duly completed) proving their origin. Contact us for more information.
